近日適逢伊斯蘭的齋戒月，伊拉克衛星電視新聞網站「Al-Sumaria」7日報導稱，伊北大城摩蘇爾的遜尼派恐怖聖戰組織「伊斯蘭國」（IS）發生毒死人事件，145名IS武裝分子在日落後開齋進食，卻集體中毒，其中45人不久即身亡。
根據齋戒月的規定，穆斯林在日落前不得進食。前述報導引述「庫德族民主黨」發言人穆姆濟尼表示，目前尚不清楚是否有人蓄意下毒，或純粹是食物中毒意外。由於伊拉克政府軍與庫德族民兵持續透過地面戰打擊IS，由伊拉克與庫德族發出的新聞也有可能是為了宣傳而力求聳動，內容未必真實可信。
去年11月，敘利亞反政府軍「敘利亞自由軍」成員假扮成廚師，滲透到駐有1200名IS武裝分子的軍營，成功在午餐裡下毒，導致數十人死亡。
